This Knitting Machine Pattern (Pattern) is for the Machine Knitter and for personal use only.

YARN : Sport Weight

1" GAUGE: 12 ROWS & 8 STiTCHES, PLAIN STITCH
TENSION: DIAL SET AT 4
 SIZE: Misses 14, Medium

LEVEL BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE

Please read through all instructions before you start knitting.

This Shawl Sweater is made with Sport Weight Yarn so it is a light weight cardigan type sweater. It has a Drop Shoulder with wide
sleeves and the Shawl Collar has an added extension in the front so you can overlap each side in the front and synch with a belt of
your choice or you can add buttons if you wish or other closures. Directions are for a plain stitch, if you do color work you would
add 20% - 30% more yarn and for stitch pattern designs such as cables, skip or slip stitch.
Below are the directions for the:
A. Sleeves (make 2)
B. the Back
C. the Right and Left Fronts (2 pieces)

SLEEVES: Make 2
Sleeves are the easiest, they are just 147 stitches wide and you knit 266 rows. If you want to add cuffs, knit an additional 30 to 50
rows, based on your preference on how wide you want the cuff.
- Cast on with waste yarn 147 needles and knit 10 rows.
- Knit 1 row of ravel cord.
- Change to your yarn and set row counter to zero. Knit one row.
- Then knit to row 266, bind off 147 stitches.

BACK:
The Back is very easy; it is just 188 stitches and 310 rows.
- Cast on with waste yarn 188 needles and knit 10 rows.
- Knit 1 row of ravel cord.
- Change to your yarn and set row counter to zero.
- Knit to row 177 and mark for sleeve opening at each side - Knit for 310 rows total (an additional 133 rows) and bind off.

RIGHT FRONT:
- Cast on with waste yarn 118 stitches, knit 10 rows.
- Knit 1 row of ravel cord.
- Change to your yarn and knit to row 177 and mark for sleeve opening.
- Change to your yarn
Knit to row 265.
- Decrease 1 stitch on row 265 on the right =117 stitches.
Knit 6 rows to row 271.
Decrease 1 stitch on the right on row 271 = 116 stitches
- Knit to row 278, decrease 1 stitch on right (115 stitches)
Knit to row 283, decrease 1 stitch on right (114 stitches)
- Knit to row 287, decrease 1 stitch on right (113 stitches)
Knit to row 292, decrease 1 stitch on right (112 stitches)
- Knit to row 296, decrease 1 stitch on right (111 stitches)
- Knit to row 300, decrease 1 stitch on right (110 stitches)
Knit to row 303, decrease 1 stitch on right (109 stitches)
- Knit to row 306, decrease 1 stitch on right (108 stitches)
Knit to row 309, decrease 1 stitch on right (107 stitches)

Carriage should be on the LEFT for the next bind off. If it is not, knit 1 more row but do not count it. You cannot do a free pass as you
need the yarn on the left for a 64 stitch bind off.

- On row 310, on the left hand side, bind off 64 stitches, this will leave you with 43 stitches. This is the top of the shoulder.
✓ It would help if you hang a few weights; it gets a little finicky when trying to knit the first row after the bind off.
Knit to row 312, decrease 1 stitch on the right (42 stitches)
- Knit to row 315, decrease 1 stitch on the right (41 stitches)
Knit to row 318, decrease 1 stitch on the right (40 stitches)
Knit to row 320, decrease 1 stitch on the right (39 stitches)
Knit to row 323, decrease 1 stitch on the right (38 stitches)
- Knit to row 326, decrease 1 stitch on the right (37 stitches)
Knit to row 328, decrease 1 stitch on the right (36 stitches)
Knit to row 330, decrease 1 stitch on the right (35 stitches)
Knit to row 333, decrease 1 stitch on the right (34 stitches)
Knit to row 336, decrease 1 stitch on the right (33 stitches)
Knit to row 338, decrease 1 stitch on the right (32 stitches)
Knit to row 340, decrease 1 stitch on the right (31 stitches)
Knit to row 342, decrease 1 stitch on the right (30 stitches)
Knit to row 345, decrease 1 stitch on the right (29 stitches)
Knit to row 347, decrease 1 stitch on the right (28 stitches)

Knit to row 351, decrease 1 stitch on the right (26 stitches)
Knit to row 353, decrease 1 stitch on the right (25 stitches)
Knit to row 355, decrease 1 stitch on the right (24 stitches)
- Knit to row 357 and bind off remaining 24 stitches.

Repeat for the LEFT FRONT
Reverse the side for decreases when shaping for the LEFT FRONT - decrease on the LEFT

SEAMING:
Once all the pieces have been knitted you will seam either by hand or with a sewing machine.

Take sleeves and fold them in 1/2 horizontally with the right side facing each other (the knit side), seam up the sleeves, Then turn
them inside out, seam should be inside on the purl side. Set aside.
-Take one of the front pieces, either the LEFT or RIGHT, and the BACK piece. Lay the BACK down with right side facing you. Take a
FRONT piece and lay it on top of the BACK with the wrong side (purl side) facing you, collar facing inwards, Right sides should be
facing each other.

-Seam the side up to the opening marked for the sleeve.
-Seam the shoulder area only. ***You will have an extra flap that is part of the collar that you seam later.

Take the other SIDE piece and do the same, leaving an opening for the sleeve.
***You will now seam the collar extensions together BEFORE seaming the collar to the back of the neck on the BACK Piece. The area
for seaming are the two end flaps to each other. Take care not to twist the end of the collar. Once you seam the collar ends
together you can then seam the top of the collar to the back of the neck opening on the BACK piece.
Once the garment pieces have been seamed, turn garment inside out and seams should be on the inside, the purl side, The plain
side, or knit stitch side, should be facing you.
Now would be a good time to give the garment a light steaming and shaping, it is easier to do with the sleeves off.
Attach the sleeves with pins in the armhole and seam into place. Make sure that the seam on the side and the seam on the sleeve
line up.
Steam and Shape if necessary.
Done!
